I thought given it is Friday and April 1st, what better way to celebrate than with some horribly awkward family photos.
How to pick jewelry
February 2nd, 2011 § 1 Comment
Today I went to a luncheon, and while I ate my cucumber and egg salad sandwich I wore over $20,000 worth of jewelry. I’m pretty sure that sentence will never be said by me again, but today, I can say it. I was lucky enough to be invited to a jewelry party hosted by Black Starr and Frost. At this party the professional jewelery people told us all about how to find the right jewelry for your face shape, neck length and hands. Apparently, for my face shape and skin coloring I should wear $12,000 emerald earrings and an $8,000 emerald necklace. I think I should have a much cheaper face shape to match my capacity.
Face Shape
To determine your face shape you can trace your reflection on the mirror with a lipstick, apparently this is a really good way to figure out the shape of your face, albeit messy.
Earnings
Round
Incorrect: Large round studs that would accentuate the fullness of your face
Correct: A round face can be lengthened by the addition of a longer drop, dangle or hoop earring. Slender angles create length to the face
Round
IncirrecT: Small earrings leave too much empty space. elongated dangles add too much length.
Correct: To soften the features, short dangles, hoops and larger fuller designs work well. Big, round earrings worn close to the face add fullness.
Long
Incorrect: Dangle earrings
Correct: Big button earnings make the face look rounder
Triangle
Incorrect: Long dangles accentuate the empty space
Correct: Medium to large, wider, fuller and square shaped earrings are complimentary as well as reverse triangles
Square
Incorrect: Large square earrings
Correct: Soften the curves by wearing round earrings, or wear something with curved edges
Heart
Incorrect: Large, round earrings or long dangles
Correct: Wide drop earrings
Necklines
The perfect measurement of the length of a necklace follows two-thirds equation. The length from the bridge of your nose to your chin is 2/3 of your head. Take that measurement as the distance from your chin down and where it falls is where your necklace should end.
Depending on the outfit, the best rule is to wear a necklace or pendant that is either shorter or longer than the fabric of the neckline so the two don’t conflict. For example, with a turtleneck, avoid wearing a pendant on a little choker that has to peek out from the top of the neck. Go for a long necklace instead. With a plunging neckline go for a shorter necklace.
Metal Color
Women with whiter skin (me) should wear yellow gold
Women with olive skin or darker skin tones should wear white gold or platinum
